Submission Guidelines

We typically accept fiction of any genre up to 6,000 words but no less than 1,000 words. All submissions should be sent as an attached Word doc.

We accept simultaneous submissions. Please notify us as soon as possible if your work is accepted elsewhere.

We do not accept submissions written by or with assistance from AI.

How to Submit:

Please send all submissions to blackbriarreview@gmail.com with Submission: [Title] by [Author] in the subject line. In the body of your email, include a brief bio, the total word count of your story, and whether you’re interested in receiving feedback, which is available for a small additional fee. If you have any previous publications, mention them. If not, that’s fine too.

Submissions which do not follow our guidelines and/or unsolicited submissions sent via social media and the like will not be considered for publication.

In submitting a piece to Blackbriar Review, the author agrees to Blackbriar’s publication rights.

Feedback Letters:

For feedback letters, we charge $10 per 1,000 words. Feedback letters will be sent out with our notice of whether your work was accepted or rejected. If your story is accepted and you opted for feedback, you will have the choice of whether to incorporate our feedback before publication.

Final Words:

As fellow writers ourselves, we know it can be daunting sending out work for publication - especially if you’re new to the entire process.

Never take rejections personally. Just because your story wasn’t accepted for publication at Blackbriar Review doesn’t mean it isn’t good.

Even if your work is rejected, please submit to us again! We ask that you wait at least one month before submitting a new story to us. You may submit a revised version of a previously rejected story at least three month after its initial rejection.
